- An ambulatory holter monitor is a heart monitor which can take a continuous electrical trace of the heart over a 24 hour period. It can detect abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and is used to investigate symptoms such as palpitations or dizziness which may be signs on an underlying heart rhythm problem (called arrhythmia).
